A) How do you drop a bombshell like that with no explanation whatsoever? That's fine if he wants to make a point about Mormonism being Protestant but how bout some evidence, explanation, etc. This reminds of the last Harold Bloom piece in the NT Times. That's not writing that's soundbiting. Flesh out an argument or leave it alone. B) Should religions get to define themselves? A British writer was on Radio West a few months ago. He had written a book on "Mormons" and used the name to encompass the FLDS as well. When asked about his use of the term he turned the tables and said it was incredibly arrogant and blind for LDS to think they get to define themselves on their own terms. So should we get to say if we're Protestants or not? Or do the NY Times, academics, writers, etc. get to determine that?
