White Separatist runs for Sheriff

My wife and I were having a great conversation about how racism began in America, American racism versus other countries racism etc. The discussion reminded me of a video I watched earlier today on CNN.

Interesting Congressional Speech, Especially in Light of Today's Discussion on Race, Politics, and Scripture.

Pretty amazing video, again, especially in light of our discussion.

Great Article for Prospective Grad Students!

Check out this article if graduate school might figure into your plans at some point. I wish I'd read something like it back, before the dawn of time, when I was thinking through things.

Joseph Smith Papers Update

The Joseph Smith Papers are available online, and they've recently added some really cool stuff.

In a fantastic move, the JSP has also released this video explaining the 4 versions of the First Vision, in two minutes. It's not exhaustive, but it is easy to understand and informative. For a more complete version, Rough Stone Rolling by Bushman gives an excellent synopsis. I believe there's also articles from Milton V. Backmon if you're interested in more.

A different take on Romney and his Mormon heritage

My dad passed along this blog post.  I think it is pretty accurate and I love the last two sentences of the post.

"In countries such as France, Germany and Japan, national identity is a given for most people, a stereotype to which they are pressured to conform. American identity is more fluid and personal, more experimental. It’s harder that way, but probably more rewarding as well."

Take a look: here.

India

Nice to see that India can describe Mormons as Bible believers who aren't Protestants. #Americanmediafail

Memorable Blog Posts on Mormonism and Race

You'll want to read this blog post by my colleague and friend at the University of Utah, Paul Reeve. You might also want to read this one by scholar Max Mueller. This one is also worth reading. This one is by a BYU religion professor, Rachel Cope. One more from William & Mary law professor Nathan Oman.
